Welcome to the Ghana Association of Western Australia
Welcome
The Ghana Association of Western Australia Inc is relatively new compared to its counterparts in the Eastern states. Until the late 1990s the few Ghanaians who lived in WA hardly met as a group except for the occasional mutual meetings to socialize.

This website will provide a central place for Ghanians in WA to keep abreast of news and events. And, it will provide a means of interaction between our members.

GHANAFEST CHICAGO USA
ghana_fest.jpg The Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, Mr. Samson Kweku Boafo informed Ghana Home Page this morning that he will definitely attend Ghanafest 2008 in Chicago on Saturday, July 26 2008. Mr. S.K Boafo is scheduled for an event in New York but decided to detour to Chicago to grace the function.

Officials of the Ghana National Council were scratching their heads yesterday to find a new keynote speaker after the original speaker, Ghana’s Ambassador to the U.S.A; Dr. Kwame Bawua-Edusei pulled out at the last minute and refused to send an official from the Embassy to deputize for him.

Sponsored by the City of Chicago, Ghanafest is one of the fastest growing neighborhood festivals in the Chicago area and the largest Ghanaian Cultural festival in the diaspora. Last year, it attracted over twenty thousand attendees. Attendance this year is expected to be higher. Many Ghanaian and tourist organizations have called the organizers to reserve a spot for their members!

Tsikata’s Case Adjourned Indefinitely
tsikata.jpg
Tsatsu Tsikata yesterday held the Supreme Court to ransom when he expressed misgivings over the empanelling of Mr Justice Annin Yeboah as a replacement on the panel to hear his motion to quash the Fast Track High Court judgement which has incarcerated him for five years.

For the second time within a week, the action by the jailed former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) forced the court to adjourn its proceedings sine die (indefinitely).
At the court's sitting last Wednesday, Tsikata sprang a surprise by telling the packed court that he objected to the empanelling of Mr Justi ce S.A. Brobbey to hear the matter because the judge had conducted investigations into allegations of bias against the trial judge, Mrs Justice Henrietta Abban, who sentenced him.
Tsikata, after drawing the court's attention yesterday to the fact that Mr Justice Annin Yeboah was part of the panel at the Court of Appeal to hear his appeal regarding the immunity of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to testify for him, said he wanted the judge to go ahead to be part of the panel but Mr Justice Annin Yeboah recluded himself from the hearing.

Kosta Papichearts_new_coach.jpg
Accra Hearts of Oak’s new coach, Kosta Papic, is expected back in town by the close of this week to begin work, in a three-year contract, with the former African champions.

Papic was in Ghana recently for talks with the club’s management in connection with his signing.

His immediate mandate includes the building of a competitive squad in order to win the premiership, as well as steering the club back into serious contention for continental honours.

The Serbian who will be assisted by former national player and one-time pillar of Hearts, Sam Johnson, was appointed as the substantive coach for Hearts after their worst season in more than 20 years, and failing for the first time in 10 years to place among the first two teams in the league.

For the second year running, December 24 at the National Theater will see a different concert from that of Kojo Antwi.

London-based promotion company, Ghana Base Management (GBM) has since last January, booked the venue for a show by Daddy Lumba and Friends.

An official at the National Theatre booking office confirmed to Showbiz that the date has been set aside for GBM. A representative of the company, Frank Appiah, was emphatic that December 24, 2008 at the National Theatre is for Daddy Lumba.

Antwi institutionalised December 24 at the National Theatre as the night for big shows and thrilled his fans there for 12 years. It was a much patronised, unrivalled event which fans eagerly looked forward to.
