History of the Ghana Association of WA
The Ghana Association of Western Australia Inc is relatively new compared to its counterparts in the Eastern states. Until the late 1990s the few Ghanaians who lived in WA hardly met as a group except for the occasional mutual meetings to socialize. As people became aware of the arrival of other Ghanaians only by word of mouth, it became obvious that it was time to form at least a social club that would aim to bring the community together.

Unfortunately, the desire to form a more cohesive community did not take place immediately. However, in 1998 the passing of two Ghanaians within a short space of time was a defining moment that galvanized the community into action. There was a firm resolve that it was time to start having more regular meetings and under more pleasant circumstances, hence the formation of the Ghanaian social club which was mainly for social interaction. The usual biannual Ghanaian party has become a popular event not only for Ghanaians but also for the Perth public.

Since 2004 there has been a study growth in population which has been significantly boosted by Ghanaians attending tertiary institutions in WA. This increase in numbers coupled with the desire to have a more significant impact on other communities prompted the executive committee to decide to incorporate the Social Club into a non profit registered Association. The group was formerly registered in 2006.

Presently the Association attracts members from all the regions of Ghana. By affiliation  we also have West Africans, Australians who have business interest in Ghana and former expatriates who have enjoyed the proverbial Ghanaian hospitality.
